Lammert Boerma (1948) was born as a farmer's son in Borgercompagnie (Gr.), a peat-colonial village. After 7 years as a machine draftsman and constructor, he became an artist in 1975.
After various exhibitions at home and abroad, Boerma's work can now be seen almost exclusively in the museum. The museum currently has approximately 450m² of floor space, spread over 13 rooms, including exhibition spaces, studios, workshop and living areas. On display are paintings, portraits, sculptures, drawings, photos with oil paint, black and white photos (own shots). In fact it is shown, life, work and living. In short, functioning as an artist. A kind of contemporary Rubens-Rembrandt house with the difference that this artist is still alive.
Boerma learned painting from books. He applies a painting technique from the 16th century: an underpainting of egg or casein tempera, is finished with oil paint, which is applied partially transparent and opaque. However, the performances are very contemporary. The often large canvases form a mixture of realistic-surrealistic and symbolic tendencies. Man often naked, vulnerable, at the mercy of the often self-invoked fate.
Themes include the transience, power structures, confrontations and dependence between man and technology, religion and eroticism.
